12:06 pm - ahhhh justice
((I just did a Friday 5 that talked about whether a person's punishment should be the same as what they did to the animal))

WINDSOR, Ont. - A man from Windsor, Ont., who was jailed after cutting off a dog's ears and suffered a somewhat similar fate behind bars has been moved to another facility.

Police say Rony Salman was transferred to a jail in Chatham, Ont., after part of his earlobe was bitten off by another inmate during an altercation at the Windsor Jail.

The inmate, who has not been publicly named, is not facing any charges.

...Salman cut the ears off his puppy and received a 90-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to animal cruelty charges in May 2007.

"Meh", a word which indicates a lack of interest or enthusiasm, became the latest addition to the Collins English Dictionary on Monday...

Finally! One of my favourite words! ;)

9:31 am - alt friday five- cooking up a storm
1. Do you like to cook or bake?
I like both.

2. If so, what are your favorite things to cook? If not, do you do it anyway (out of necessity or other reasons)?
Family dishes I know, squares... I also enjoy trying out new recipes from my Company Coming cookbooks.

3. Whatever your level of cooking skill, how/where did you learn it?
That's a tricky question. I suppose I learned some from my mom some from my grandma, but mostly self taught.

4. Would you rather cook only for yourself, for yourself and a friend, or for a crowd? Why?
A small group (say, four people?). I hardly ever cook anything elaborate for myself, and cooking for a crowd is stressful.

5. Do you wish you had opportunity/need to cook more or less in your daily life?
I think my cooking needs are pretty even. Maybe I wish I had more opportunities to try out new recipes with other people so I could get their opinion on them.

10:24 pm - a friday five .. on erm.. tuesday? oops
Friday Five or Friday Fiver.. I forget which I copied now (my bad)

1. What is your favorite board game?
Is boggle a board game? It's non-computer game. Anyhoo, I love to Boggle. Picked it up while playing the game with my grandma as a little girl.

2. What is your favorite card game?
I quite enjoy Euckre. Not sure if it's my FAVOURITE, but I like it quite alot.

3. Do you like to play games on the computer or on a gaming system?
I don't have a gaming system soooooo, computer? As long as I know how to use the controlers I can't see what the difference is.

4. If so, what is your favorite game to play?
Sims. duh

5. Do you like to play games with people or to play them alone?
Either. Both. Doesn't matter. I'm big on games. In fact, picked up three games on the long weekend. Pass the Pig (been looking for this FOREVER) and fun card word game called... Quizzler or something like that? and a game that's kinda like tetris but on a board game (2 player head-to-head. very tricky).

Lately I've had the urge to delete my blog here. Not meaning, I want to leave LiveJournal, but just erasing all the crap I've written in the last five years. Like .. what's the word.. like when you throw away all the crap in your house to create better... ying? or is it yang? (oy I'm tired.. the concept will come to me eventually). Anyways, I feel I need a purge. I don't even know if it's possible. Is there a "please delete my entire journal" button? I'm seriously considering this. And then I can readd my friends and they can hopefully readd me, and I can have a new fresh journal. that would be nice...

Feng Shui! I knew the concept would come to me...

2:46 am - I shall go to sleep.. I will go to sleep.. I'm going to sleep.. tomorrow. But for now, Friday Fiver!
Friday Fiver - Oh Internet, how we crave thee...

1. How much time do you spend on the Internet daily?
Way too much. My whole job involves being logged onto the internet daily, from 9-5. And then I come home and log in for an hour or so to do "fun sites" and banking. Add it all up and it's just way way way too much time online.

2. What are your favorite 3 websites?
Hmmm. I feel pressured to say LiveJournal *looks over shoulder* but what I'm going to say are: PanHistoria, For Better or Worse Daily Strip, and my local newspaper. Maybe not the funnest sites, but definately the sites I check when I'm online.

3. Do you eat at your computer?
Yeah. I mean, who doesn't? Nothing too complicated mind you (unless I'm in a rush and trying to do two things at once). Mostly just drinks. Coffee... uhm.. and more coffee.

4. Pick one and why - Reading the news online or in a newspaper?
Online. I always read the news online. No icky ink all over your hands. Quick links to the articles you want to read. I only buy the newspaper if I want to save the article.. you know, like when a new HP movie opens and they do a four page spread with pretty pictures and info (yes, I'm a geek).

5. How many people are on your instant messenger buddy list?
Wow. No idea. Honestly? I hardly use the thing anymore. I think it automatically puts my email friends on it. So there might be five or six. Only three on there that I'll actually talk to if I turn the bloody thing on.

5:19 pm - Friday Fiver - Tell us your favorite songs / types of music for...
Tell us your favorite songs / types of music for...

1. Getting in the mood to party:
Upbeat, funky dance music. Something with a good beat and something that makes me feel sexy and a little naughty ;) eg. Justin Timberlake's (don't groan now) Bringing Sexy Back.

2. When you're depressed:
Ha! Coldplay. The Scientist. Yellow. Fix You. You get the picture.

3. When you're in lust:
Sappy love songs. Nora Jones. Even, god help me, Celine Dion.

4. Exercising:
Energetic and fun music with a stong steady beat. eg.) 90s dance tunes like "I've got the power!"

5. Driving / riding in the car:
Usually driving music matches my mood. I like listening to AreoSmith and Celtic Music like Genticorum (sp??).

6:16 pm - Friday Fiver - Summer bound
1. How many foreign countries have you visited?
Hardly any. *sigh* Holland and the US (is the US considered foreign? *L*)

2. What do you always take with you on vacation?
I have a picture of me and my cat that's in a heart frame that I always take with me if I go on vacation.
... Wow... that actually came across a bit scary didn't it? i swear I'm not crazy cat lady, honest!

3. Name something you've lost recently:
Nothing. Nothing I can think of that is.

4. Do you prefer action packed vacations or relaxing ones?
A bit of both. I can't sit around on a beach all day. I'll go stir-crazy. But I don't need wild raft riding either to stay happy.

5. Other people's vacation photographs: do you really want to see them?
Of course! I love looking at vacation photos.

OMG OMG OMG! I just heard on a commercial today that BigBrother is doing an AllStar show! Dr Evil Will! Dr Evil Will! *calming breath* It's a vote in show though, so people can choose from 20 previous guest who will be revealed tomorrow. My god. They better have Dr Will. An allstar show without Dr Evil Will would be like Survivor Allstars without Boston Rob. It just can't happen.

***NOTE: I know i haven't done a proper update in ages, and now all you get is my gippy happiness over BBAllstars. Alas, this is about as exciting as my life gets at the moment ;) ***

10:00 pm - What was I thinking Meme – taken from Vampwill
** I'm such a bad blogger lately. Not that I have much interesting to say at the moment...**

copy and paste in your journals

Introducing the WHAT WAS I THINKING MEME
Admit it! We've all loved movies, tv shows, music, at one time that for the life of us now we can't figure out what we saw in it. Life changes, tastes change, styles change, nothing wrong with that. So think back and tell your friends what you couldn't live without, and now if you saw again you'd cringe.

1. Name a song you used to love but now can't stand, or only would listen to once in a few years.
Yes my persona of cool is about to go up in dust. I used to love Celine Dion’s “my heart will go on”. Really, there is no excuse I can come up with to explain away this major faux pas. Although I’ll try.. it was during college days and I was drunk a lot. Apparently drunk enough to love this song. ;)

2. Name a band/singer that at one time you would have splurged a half a year of allowance to see live? Now you wouldn't waste money on thier cd ever again!

Maybe this will surprise people, but I’m going to go with Mariah Carey. Loved her when I was in grade 7/8. Had all her errr, cassettes (wow, how weird is it to type THAT word.. cassette.. I feel so old!). But can’t stand her new stuff. Well, can’t stand her old stuff either. I will blame this temp insanity on peer pressure.

3. Name a tv show you never missed but won't watch now even if it came to TV Land or Nick at Nite in reruns.
This is a toughy ‘cause I loved TV back then and still love it now. And I’m sentimental so I LIKE watching old shows. But let’s see. The Dukes of Hazards (didn’t actually LUV the show but I can’t watch it now). Maybe Growing Pains? Oh! Wait. I’ve got it. I used to watch the Benny Hill show with my dad. I don’t know why but I guess it was funny to a five year old. Now I can’t stand the show. Hate the show. Ugh! I hate that show.

4. Name a cartoon you used to love, but there's no way in hell you'd let your own children drag you into the cartoon again.
Hard again! Hmmm… Carebears? (ouch) Rainbow bright? My little pony. All the really cheesy love-care-share shows.

5. Name something you wore but would never ever wear again not even if someone paid you a lot of money to do it!
Spandex shorts. Spandex shorts with neon green stripes on the side topped off with baggy neon green t-shirt. *shudder* thank god that fad happened when I was in grade 5 and not in highschool.

10:28 pm - The Friday Five :: Set Your Wayback Machine to 1980...
Today's questions graciously supplied by sooguy

** So I must mention between 1980-1989 I was 2-11 respectfully **

1) Favourite movie of the 1980s?
Dirty Dancing. That movie was all the rage back in grade three/four. All the girls had to see it (even though I think it was rated PG13 or maybe even R??) I still remember getting in shit when I let my neighbour watch our taped version of it on TV. Mom had a cow! Later on, I realized she was more worried that there might be porn taped on the tape, rather than freeking over the movie itself. Ha.

2) Favourite musician/group of the 1980s?
Madonna. Oh yes, and age five I was running around singing "like a virgin." I feel sorry for my mother.

3) Favourite TV show of the 1980s?
Tricky. I was (am) such a tv nut. I loved Knight Rider. Family Ties. Alf. Not to mention, all the cool cartoons: Jem, She-Ra, etc.

4) Favourite invention of the 1980s?
No idea. oh! dur. the computer? Not to say it was invented then, but I saw my first computer when I was in kindergarten and it's been a love affair since.

5) World Event from the 1980s that stands out in your mind?
the gulf war. I think that was in the 80s? or perhaps early 90s. I just remember talking about it in grade 7 and watching it on TV and feeling scared. I also remember GST being a big deal. And Brian Mulroney. That's about it. Wasn't really a news buff back at that age. Oh! Hello. The space ship Challenger (or was it explorer?) blowing up. We were watching it as part of a school program in grade two. I can't even remember what our teacher said when her classroom full of 6 year olds watched a space ship explode.

Gross!

2. Stubbed your toe
God dammit.

3. Become frustrated
dammit

4. Broken something
Fuuuuuuuuck.

Whoops!
or
Crap/shit... well, you get the picture.

5. Been cut off by another driver
Oh wow. really can't type everything I mutter and say when I start to feel a wee bit of road rage. Let's just say I really ought to clean my mouth out with soap after an idiot has cut me off.

When is single "single"? In the past this was a very simple answer to me. But now? Now it's a bit more complicated. If a guy is separated from his wife, but not divorced from his wife, does that make him single? Being almost 28 now, it's something I constantly run into on the "dating scene". I'm still struggling with whether they are actually single. I'll tell you what it definately is, and that is "messy". Haven't dabbled with it yet and not sure I ever will...

11:44 am - cherub + bunny slippers
A misuse of a livejournal I know, but come on! Cherub the vampire w/ bunny slippers! Who wouldn't be intrigued? Actually, my brother just informed me of this parody of Angel, and I want to check it out. Problem is, I need to check it out when I'm on a computer with high speed (nix this computer). Tricky. Available at work, but I'm not going to try that seeing the head admin got the boot last month due to "improper internet blogging while at work" or something to that effect. I still don't have the WHOLE story on that one, but I guess the gal was blogging about the office (while at work) and the boss found files saved on her work computer... *shug* Or something to that effect. Anyhoo, point being, I'm very careful what I pull up on my work computer now. Right - so a post about nothing. This is just to remind me what to google when I get a chance to log onto my brother's computer in town. Hopefully, it's worth all the fuss. But parody's usually are right?

Speaking of brothers, my other brother is in town this weekend and lent me his "Final Fantasy-Advant Children" movie. After watching it I'm starting to think it might have been more interesting if I actually had played the games (not that I CAN play the games. I totally suck at computer games that involve alot of fighting/jumping sequences).

9:11 pm - Friday Five
After being away for a bit, I come back and bring you... a morbid Friday five! Whoo hoo! Aren't I fun?

If you knew you were going to die on at specific day at a specific time, what's the last...

1. song you would listen to?
Probably something mellow, and sad. Becuase if I were dieing I'd be having a full on pity fest for myself. Hmmmm.. sad and thoughtful music... my guess is Coldplay, The Scientist.

2. book you would read?
probably the bible. Not becuase I'm a super religious person, but if I knew I was going to die I have a feeling that fear of death would kick in, which generally turns a person to religion, therefore... bible.

3. person you would talk to?
My mom. Awww. Of course, the question didn't say "pet" because let's be serious.. it would totally be my cat. *grin*

4. food you would eat?
Oh... chocolate I suppose. If ones going to die may as well screw the diet right? And no worries about impending zits either.

5. goal you would accomplish?
Probably to right (err, *edit* write. Gawd, if I want to write something I better learn to write write) something worth reading. I'd hope.

4:35 pm - in the news - the seal hunt
I know this is a serious topic, but I couldn't help it. Reading this article made me laugh.

http://lfpress.ca/newsstand/News/National/2006/03/27/1507084-sun.html

"Hunt protesters with the Humane Society of the United States claimed they were shaken up yesterday when a sealing boat rammed their small, inflatable Zodiac, damaging the boat's propeller....She said protesters had videotaped the incident and planned on turning the footage over to the RCMP."

I mean, honestly, can you imagine reviewing these videos in order to charge the person involved? *lol* Gawd.. so funny. But err, serious. *cough* Very serious of course.

8:33 pm - just when i thought things couldn't get weirder.
I have a weird family. Oh, I know what you're thinking. Everyone's family is weird in some way or another, but trust me my family is the weirdest. In fact, I'm starting to think that I'm going about writing all wrong. Instead of writing fiction, I should just right a book about my family. I even have a title for it - "So you think your family is fucked up?". Kinda catchy huh?

But I digress.

Week Two: Family announcement #3. (#1 being that my brother's girlfriend moved in with him, #2 being that my brother's girlfriend is pregnant). Which brings us to #3... my brother and his girlfriend are married. Today you ask? Why no. This past week you ask? Again, sorry, no. Let's try, last summer. Ding ding ding. We have a winner! My brother got married last summer. And I found out... today. As did my parents. Yup. Let the wackiness ensue.

Good god though, I'm just about ready to pack it in and join the sane side of the family who live in Holland. The family over here are just plain too weird.
